Atlanta Pride Parade is full of colorful and vibrant spirits. It’s a day of celebrating who you are, whether you fall within the LGBTQ identification or not.
The Dikes on Bikes and the Fat Bottom Girlz lead the parade roaring through on their motorcycles.
The motorcycles roll up in front of the radical Christian protestors and rev up their motorcycles to drown out their messages. Some signs reading “Repent turn to Jesus or burn” and “Homo sex is a sin.” The encounter lasts for several minutes. Police keep an eye out but no violence occurs. Instead LGBTQ friendly signs try to cover up the anti-gay signs and dominate over the hateful messages being shouted out.
Atlanta is the big city of the south. Though most Atlanta residents will consider themselves progressive, located in the heart of the “bible belt,” it’s still a highly conservative state overall and the radical Christians will show up to express their viewpoints on homosexuality.
The Atlanta Pride parade is truly an event full of color and expression.
