Capitol Pride was a happy place, full of color and life. It’s become a long tradition now that the Dykes on Bikes, made up of female motorcyclists across the country, lead the start of the Pride parade. This year at the Capital Pride, the Outriders Women’s MC were out in front, joined by Atlanta’s Dykes on Bikes, The Fat Bottom Girlz and several other motorcycle clubs to make for a large roaring start to the parade.
Edith Windsor was one of the Grand Marshals in the 2017 Capital Pride. Now an LGBTQ icon, she will go down in history for her involvement in United States v. Windsor. In its landmark ruling, the Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which by its terms had excluded gay couples from all the benefits and protections of marriage under federal law.
