Don’t stress
Here are a few tips on how you can prepare for a photo shoot.
24 Hours Before
Hydrate. Drink plenty of water. Avoid fatty, greasy, and salty foods prior to your shoot. Avoid alcohol or anything that will make you puffy or bloated.
Get 8 Hours of Sleep: As much as possible, try to get some rest in the days leading up to your shoot. Prioritizing sleep the night before your shoot is the most effective method for looking rested;)
Don’t Forget Your Fingernails. Whether you wear them long or short, make sure they are well-manicured and ready for their close-up.
Facial hair. Decide if you’ll wear a clean shave or maintain a trimmed appearance. However, do not shave immediately before your shoot – razor bumps and discoloration will become more apparent.
Prepare Your Wardrobe. Iron your clothes so there are no wrinkles. Use a lint roller.
The Day Of
Eating a light meal before you leave. Food is fuel and if you skip your meals before shooting, chances are you’ll run out of energy and lose focus. There’s no need to skip any meals.
Dress For the Job You Want: Stick with solid colored tops. Patterns can be very distracting and can cause moire patterns that are virtually impossible to correct digitally. Depending on your industry, you may be tempted to wear casual attire but you want to dress up a bit for that professional headshot.
Don’t wear an undershirt with your dress shirt. If you do, wear a white undershirt – not black or grey.
Avoid logos or large graphics unless it’s relevant to your industry.
Makeup. If you aren’t getting your makeup professionally done, you still want to put on an even, light, foundation on your face. Nothing fancy but it will help even out the tones on your face.
Be sure that you know how to get to the studio or location where you are shooting. If you are working with a make-up artist, please be sure that they are aware of these directions as well.
5-Minutes Before
Check that your hair is as you want it.
Check for shine on your face.
Make sure your glasses are clean.
Relax. Stress and anxiety will show up in photos, so make sure to relax. Listen to your favorite song and do a little dancing at home before your session. You’re going to look great!
In the event that something unexpected happens and you are going to be late, please call. There may be a session scheduled after you so it’s a possibility you will need to get rescheduled. 404.565.4201
